LANCASTER — Starting on Monday, Feb. 6, appointments with volunteer tax preparation experts will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. in the office of Rep. John C. Bear (R-Lancaster) to assist senior citizens, persons with disabilities and low-income individuals with tax questions on their tax returns. This schedule excludes official holidays.

HARRISBURG – To ensure that necessary repairs can be made to local water infrastructure, Reps. John Bear (R-Lancaster) and Tom Creighton (R-Lancaster) led efforts in the state House today so that a proportion of the money from a new Marcellus Shale impact fee proposal could be set aside for repairs to aging dams in Pennsylvania and other flood control projects. Despite their attempts, Bear and Creighton were disappointed that the amendment to the legislation failed.

HARRISBURG – To ensure that Pennsylvania’s veterans are recognized on the day of the national observance, Rep. John Bear (R-Lancaster) has secured House approval of a resolution marking Nov. 11 as Veterans Day in the Commonwealth.

HARRISBURG -- On the 50th birthday of the state’s Prevailing Wage Act, legislators and industry officials said the time has come to modernize the law and ensure that it is working in the best interest of local and state governments, and ultimately, the taxpayers, said Rep. John Bear (R-Lancaster), who has sponsored legislation to update the act and is spearheading efforts for the update.

WHAT: Recognizing the 50th birthday of the Prevailing Wage Act of 1961 and the need to modernize several sections of the law, several legislators will urge movement on a six-bill legislative package. Six of the bills advanced from the House Labor and Industry Committee this week, but more action is needed.
