Rep. John Bear Calls for Action to Reform Pennsylvania’s Prevailing Wage Law - 10/5/2011
On the 50th anniversary of the state’s Prevailing Wage Act, lawmakers joined industry officials in calling for action on a package of legislation to reform the law and make sure it is working in the best interest of Pennsylvania taxpayers. Rep. John Bear (R-Lancaster), sponsor of one of the bills, said the time has come to modernize the application of prevailing wage to improve government efficiency and give taxpayers more bang for the buck. Rep. John Bear Comments on Bill to Privatize Wine and Liquor Sales in PA - 7/14/2011
Legislation to bring Pennsylvania out of the post-Prohibition era by finally moving the sale of wine and liquor into private hands has been introduced in Harrisburg. The bill is designed to modernize and privatize wholesale and retail sales of alcohol while reforming the tax structure, strengthening enforcement efforts and enhancing alcohol education programs. Rep. Bear Comments on Potential Privatization of PA Liquor Stores - 3/31/2011
The House Appropriations Committee received testimony from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board earlier this week on revenue expectations for the coming fiscal year, and the possible sale of state-owned liquor stores. Many lawmakers support the liquidation of state stores as a way to balance the budget, and Rep. John Bear (R-Lancaster) said the Commonwealth could still reap the tax revenue on the sales of liquor, even after the stores have been privatized. Chuck Nichols Reports - Story and Bite available.
Rep. John Bear Comments on Governor's Budget Proposal - 3/9/2011
Governor Corbett delivered his first budget address before a joint session of the House and Senate Tuesday in Harrisburg, laying out a 27.3 billion dollar plan that represents an overall 3.1% reduction in state spending. Rep. Bear Pleased that His Tax Amnesty Program Brought in More Revenue Than Projected for PA - 6/21/2010
A final tally for the state’s tax amnesty program of $261 million was announced Monday in Harrisburg by Governor Rendell. The Governor offered praise for Republican House member Rep. John Bear (R-Lancaster), who originated the amnesty plan during last year’s budget process. Rep. Bear said he was also pleased to see the program bring in more money than originally projected at a time when the state is desperately in need of additional revenue. The "By The Way" public affairs radio program airs weekly on WLPA, WROZ and WSJW with host Sue Sensenig. This week's guest is Rep. John Bear who discussed the tax amnesty program now being utilized by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue to enhance the collection of delinquent state taxes. Rep. Bear was an early proponent in reviving the use of this type of program to bring additional revenue into state coffers in a year when it will be needed to help eliminate a growing state budget deficit. Rep. Bear will also discuss his recent efforts to institute new savings in state government spending through a variety of reforms in the methods used by the state to do business.
